Exploring Common Motor Oil Myths

The motor oil that is inside of your vehicle is incredibly important. The quality of it, the level that it is at: these factors contribute to the overall efficiency of your vehicle as well as the longevity of your vehicle's life span. There are a lot of myths out there pertaining to motor oil. Let's talk about a few of them.

  • Myth #1: You must change oil every 3,000 miles. Your motor oil does not need to be changed every 3,000 miles. Each vehicle is different and you should go by what your manufacturer's handbook suggests.
  • Myth #2: Black oil is bad oil. Black motor oil does not necessarily mean that your oil needs to be changed. Each vehicle runs differently and affects the oil quality in its own way.
  • Myth #3: You can't switch between synthetic and conventional oil. Just because your vehicle has been running on synthetic oil for a few years now doesn't mean you can't make the change to conventional. Check with your auto service professionals for guidance.
